Our Origin:
“Bienvenue ma cher!”
Founded in March 2025, Mutha’s House was born from the vision of restoring the cultural heartbeat of the Black community—the spirit of “Big Mama’s House.” It is both a homecoming and a tribute: honoring the tradition of intergenerational care while also recognizing the legacy of Trans Mothers who have housed, healed, and guided other trans women into becoming who they are destined to be.
Mutha’s House exists at the intersection of Blackness, queerness, and community care. It is a living homage to the overlapping yet distinct traditions of our culture, all rooted in one truth: our community deserves a space that feels like home. Here, love isn’t just a value—it’s the revolution. It is our antidote to the toxic hyper-individualism, consumerism, and competition that have shaped society for centuries.
At Mutha’s House, food is shared freely, but giving back—whether through time, money, energy, or spirit—is how we sustain one another. We take care of our community for ourselves because we can not thrive without each other. We believe in the timeless wisdom: it takes a village to build a community, and in our village, we create family!
Who we is:
“Empowering others Empower us all”
“The mission is to create a transformative community space where Black people can access true equity and inclusion – where Black vision, freedom and creativity are celebrated and nurtured. Through this space, I strive to uplift and empower, by holding space for greatness, providing free food, unity, and reflecting the boundless strength of motherly love. This is a place where we support one another, honor our collective potential, and boldly create the future we deserve. While keeping our freedom free”

About Our Founder:
Mutha Shakura
Mutha Shakura, born [dead name] Fuselier, is a U.S. Army Veteran who, after seven years of service and an honorable discharge, faced the challenges of PTSD and a life-altering suicide attempt in 2019. This dark chapter became the turning point in their life, where support from the VA and their birth family helped them find strength and healing. Inspired by their mother’s love and hospitality, Mutha created the concept of “muthaly” love—a philosophy of embracing others with unconditional care and solidarity. In 2023, Mutha purchased their first home in Decatur, which became the operating location for Mutha’s House, and in 2024, they founded King BHVR, the LLC behind the brand. Mutha is also working on their upcoming book, Our Black Book Poetry, set for release in 2025. Their mission is to make love and community accessible to all, particularly Black and oppressed people, while establishing a non-profit focused on vital social issues such as poverty, reproductive justice, LGBTQ+ rights, and equity. Mutha’s experience as a community outreach coordinator at a nonprofit, combined with a degree in Political Science, has provided them with a deep understanding of nonprofit work and the socioeconomic challenges of oppressed groups. Mutha believes the best way to create change is to start where you are today and build from there, investing in various ventures that uplift others. Their goal is to stand as a testament to resilience, healing, and the transformative power of love and community. Their slogans are “Everyone who finds me is family!” and “I will do whatever I can to keep freedom free, our ancestors paid enough already.”
